The Human War Movie

The Human War is being made into a movie for real.

The movie will start filming at the beginning of December.

It is pretty exciting.

Since this has been going on, I started to think about the people that were around me when the iraq war started.

They seem pretty fucked up in the book.

Everyone seems chaotic and like they will die for unknown reasons.

But I started to think about like the ten of us that all hung out together.

Except for two people, one who recently killed herself, and one who became a schizophrenic crack head.

Everyone pretty much got their shit together and became an adult.

Became like managers, went to tech schools, moved up at work or graduated college and became white collar. Some have moved away and done normal American things like pay their bills and have new cars.

I think if the movie or if the book did anything, it shows that period a lot of Americans have in their early twenties. That period where nothing matters, like 19 to 23 where you are physically healthy, sexually charged, and your parents are still giving you money. You aren't thinking about doing anything with your life, you might be in college, but you aren't thinking about health insurance or mortgage payments, or if your kid needs new shirts and shoes for school.

It never occurred to me when I was 21 that everyone for the most part would grow up to be normal people.

It seemed like the chaos would last forever.

It doesn't though: one day you see your old friend and he says he's an engineer, another a quality control inspector, both making like 40,000 a year. They start talking about their 401ks and you realize that time has passed.

I think, for people my age, around 28 to 32, we were in our chaotic stage when 9-11, the afghan war, and the iraq war started. If you were younger, you were in school concerned with pepper rallies and football or playing the guitar, if you were older you were concerned with making something of or maintaining the life you had. But we were sitting there, without any responsibility, able to really get sucked in and fucked by it.
