A long time ago in the 11th Century in the city of Kaifeng in China during the Song Dynasty. The city grew to over a million and had paper money. And someone thought, 'What does this city need? How can I make something of myself in this world?' A Chinese man by the name of Chang Fung opened a little restaurant that served rice, onions, and chicken.
On the first day the the cooks were working away making orders. A cook put two plates of chicken and rice on the ancient wooden window. No server came to get it for five minutes. One cook told another cook, “I'm working my balls off in this hot kitchen and these fucking servers don't even come and get their food!”
The server came, got the food and came back a minute later and yelled at the cook, “The chicken isn't done.”
The cook finished cooking the chicken and gave it back to the server.
The server walked out and gave the food to the customer, then went up to another server and said, “Fucking cooks fucked up my order, now I won't get a good tip.”
And there, nearly a thousand years ago, in the first restaurant the war was started between cooks and servers that still persists to this day.
