Murder Rampages and Conceptual Art

What is the difference between the Virgina Tech and Columbine murders and normal murders?

What are normal murders?

Normal murders are when some poor people disagree over something, and one of the poor people decides to kill another poor person.

We can assume the poor person is acting out some type of transference, that perhaps they want to strike out against their mother who treated them horribly, an uncle who raped them or their oppressors.

Something boils up in the poor person and it comes out one day on some random person. Now one could say, "He killed Joe because Joe owed him money." But when we get a loan and miss a couple payments the bank doesn't shoot us. He killed Joe because he wanted to feel the power of murder, to murder is power.

But lets look at Cho Seung-Hui, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold all lived in comfortable conditions, they weren't children of the ghetto or trailer parks. (they weren't millionaires either, just people in comfortable situations.)

They were Frank Wheelers.

The Frank Wheelers have created their own special art, it is called Conceptual Art.

What is Conceptual Art in existential terms?

Conceptual Art is a product of humans that have lived in relative comfort all their lives, have never been exposed to the shit of life, they are ignorant yet educated, they are motivated but not talented, and the art is classless.

Conceptual Art is classless because the artist is so far out in their own spaceland that they don't even know what class-division is and view the problems of the world as isolated events and that things don't have anything to do with each other, that reality is a collection of Things-In-Itself.

Which explains Conceptual Art, usually the piece is just a Thing-In-Itself.

Now how does this relate to Cho Seung-Hui, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold:

The style of their murders is perfectly described by LeWitt, "In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art."

Murder Rampages are always planned before hand, people who commit murder rampages are very meticulous in what they plan to do. The plan becomes the machine that makes murder. People described Cho's face as expressionless, no real excitement. He was the machine carrying out the plan.

The concept of murdering other people is what propels the decisions. The murders are senseless and classless like the art. The murderers want the murders to signify something: that is why they do the videos. But in reality it means nothing, the murders are not against any oppressors, not even to steal. The murders are senseless, because the murders are based on the philosophy that reality is a collection of isolated Things-In-Itself. That reality holds no context, that we are all in space floating along hitting nothing and nothing hitting us.

The murders are perfunctory, and the videos supply the meaning to the murders. Because in third person, from the outside, the murders mean nothing, only through the videos do the murders have meanings.

As opposed to poor people murdering each other, one dude pisses off another dude at a club. The dude pulls out his gun and shoots the other. Random and unplanned, and for sure there was emotion the shooters face.

I'm not sure.

This is fucked up.

This gives me a fun idea to write about. But I'm not sure either. Seung-Hui Cho, Eric Harris, Dylan Klebold, and other school shooters didn't kill all of their direct tortured (although Harris and Klebold killed a lot of them), but they were tortured by various people and neglected by authority figures unless it was to punish them for acting out. So transference has to be working here to some degree.

And Things-In-Themselves seems odd to me, like calling a band the "Lone Rangers." You can't pluralize "lone." There are conditions in America that produce people that may live comfortably in many respects, but get verbally and physically abused, socially neglected, and get taught not to expect help from anyone but themselves. It's systematic too; when Mark Ames tried to find a specific school profile that was murder rampage-prone, he couldn't, because most every school worked the same way institutionally and socially. If anyone can be called a conceptual artist, it's whoever is responsible for the persistence of an institutional model that doesn't try to prevent class division and other factors from causing abuse. They probably haven't set foot in a real school in years, don't know that the machine they've built occasionally results in a killer, and don't consider themselves responsible for it even if they do know.

maybe it's because of the narcissistic quality--i.e, narcissism provides the meaning, so that's why the video is needed, it memorializes the act and shows the individual perceptions of the murderer. So it is kind of a thing in itself, but it's a thing that that person's narcissism makes seem like it should be a thing to the whole fucking world. If you're materially comfortable, than the only reason for something along those lines can be purely a reason from yourself; if you're emotionally tortured but materially well-off, then the torture has only a purely internal effect, it only matters as through the perception of you. Whereas in the ghetto, shooting somebody is part of a bigger thing, it's not novel, people shoot people, it's a fact. People are subjected to a shitty life through a shitty system, and everyone feels it. It's not a product of narcissism.

So if an artist wrote out a plan to murder everyone in an art museum and had his understudies carry out his plan. Would it be art, a muder rampage, or a bad day to be at the museum?
